Pain in the jaw. Permanent. Jaw blockage? When was the last time you ate an apple?

The pain relieving expert explains: Pain in the jaw. Permanent. Jaw blockage? When was the last time you ate an apple? It feels like the jaw joint is blocked.

Chewing is no longer a pleasure and the pain is sometimes dull and sometimes sharp. Speaking and especially yawning cause further discomfort. Known? Shall we continue?

Due to the variety of pain conditions, it is not only the patients who find it difficult to classify the complaints correctly. Doctors, too, are often at a loss and do not know where to start with their treatment. They then prescribe medicines and other fast-acting remedies.

Painkillers such as “Ibuprofen” provide quick relief, but are not a long-term solution. Not to mention the reduction in quality of life. Among other things, clients complain about pain (especially when moving the lower jaw) and pressure sensitivity in the area of the temporomandibular joints. Noises in the temporomandibular joint. Pain when opening the mouth and / or chronic facial pain that is perceived as dull. The whole thing is often combined with neck, shoulder and back pain. Or with migraine or ear complaints.

Let’s investigate the causes! The chewing muscles, like other muscles in our body, are surrounded by connective tissue, the so-called fasciae. A very, very strong muscle. And no, jaw complaints cannot only be treated with orthodontic interventions and aids such as dental splints. The masticatory muscles, which run along both sides of the face and extend up to the temples, are shortening more and more due to restricted movement patterns of our jaws. We hardly ever open our mouths wide anymore.

In addition, “the work” in everyday life, but especially at night. Determined to reach the daily goal. Gritting your teeth. Here, the teeth are pressed so tightly together that the chewing muscles are exposed to strong pressure. Whether consciously or unconsciously.

What happens to a muscle that is only moved in a shortened range of motion and is also permanently overloaded? And gets shorter and shorter.

What happens if you do 100 repetitions with a 50kg dumbbell every day? Every day. Without a break. Imagine that! Exactly… 🙂

Redemption: The range of motion of the muscle must be increased. This is what I do with clients and it works brilliantly. I have already been able to free people who were permanently wearing a dental splint. Long-term.

I invite you to learn more and to find a way out of this “environment”. Get in touch.

Stay strong. See you next time.

Matti
